Dangerously Distracted

The Middle East could be on the cusp of all-out war.

Meanwhile, our presidential election continues to be one of the most divisive in history. It is focused on personal attacks instead of dealing with the profound dangers facing our country. Let’s be clear about what those dangers are.

In its ongoing effort to defend itself from terrorism, Israel recently took out a Hamas leader in Tehran and a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon. In retaliation, Iran is promising to “punish” Israel with an imminent attack, and Hezbollah just launched a drone strike on northern Israel that wounded two Israeli troops. Meanwhile, Russia is continuing its brutal assault on Ukraine and China is threatening Taiwan. The leaders of China, Russia, and Iran have said explicitly they want to tear down the U.S.-led world order.

There is a clear and present risk of these threats converging.

To prevent this, we need our leaders to understand the moment we’re in. We need our presidential candidates to turn down the personal rancor and tell us, in no uncertain terms, how they will keep our nation – and allies like Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East – safe for the next four years.

All of us, as Americans, should take a step back and realize our political infighting is getting out of control. The more divided we are, the more united our enemies become. So, we must unite before they do.

As the leading voice for unity in America, our community has a critical role in calling on our leaders—and our neighbors and friends—to come together for the good of our country and the world.

AMERICA — NEEDS YOUR HELP.
