Michigan voters rewarded Whitmer for working with President Trump even as Democratic insiders warned her not to.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer took heat from her fellow Democrats last month. Her crime? Working with President Trump to deliver results from her state.

Democratic party operatives warned that Gov. Whitmer was “playing with fire” and “risked being left behind.” She ignored them, and it paid off big time.

A recent poll by Impact Research, a Democratic polling firm, found that Gov. Whitmer is more popular now than ever. Here are the key findings:

63%

Over 60% of Michigan voters, including two-thirds of independents, approve of Gov. Whitmer. Even 35% of Republicans agree!

According to Impact Research’s data, Gov. Whitmer is now the most-liked state-level Democrat in the country.

+34

Gov. Whitmer has a 61% approval rating on “working with both parties,” which is up 34 points since 2023. She’s made more of an effort to cross the aisle this year, and voters have noticed.

60%

60% of Michigan voters agreed Gov. Whitmer is “doing the right thing by working with President Trump.”

There was a broad consensus on this question: majorities of Democrats (54%), independents (60%), and Republicans (68%) all approve of the way she’s approaching President Trump.

Gov. Whitmer is proving that voters care more about results than party labels. They don’t want bickering and grandstanding; they want leaders who can set their differences aside and do what’s right for their constituents.

Many leaders in the heartland have already figured this out; when will Washington catch on?
